DESCRIPTION

In this workshop we will discuss the aesthetics and workflows of kinbaku photography. It is aimed at riggers, models, photographers and anyone who contributes to the production of a photo shoot, from lifters to lightning assistants, at any level.

The aim of the class is to learn and define a workflow during a shoot in which all people involved understand the basics of Japanese aesthetics and are able to achieve quality results without overcomplicating themselves.

We will also look at what really makes a good kinbaku photo beautiful and what are the basic tools needed to achieve and appreciate that beauty. The aim of the workshop is to learn how to apply all this knowledge to improve our own shoots.

This workshop will be held in English

THE WORKSHOP IS STRUCTURED IN DIFFERENT BLOCKS

A theoretical part with projections during the morning, in which we will analyze the work of different personalities within the world of kinbaku and photography.

A theoretical-practical part for photographers in which we will establish a series of parameters that will define set, lighting, history and direction, as well as basic notions of how to communicate with your model.

A theoretical-practical part for models and riggers in which they will analyze and practice different important elements in the aesthetics of shibari, how to show them and how to communicate with the director of the session.

A demo session in which the participants will be able to see the creative process, the way of working and all the elements of the session working together.

A series of guided sessions in which, in turns, a group of participants will create a set and for an hour and a half they will work until the desired creative result is achieved. Each session will feature a different model and will be led by one or two different photographers.

The results of each session will be projected for analysis and suggestions and we will also talk about the post production stage.

TEAM STRUCTURE

For the practical part of the workshop, there will be teams. This director of each team will be the photographer, who will communicate their vision to the rest of the team. If there are more than 3 teams, we will have 2 directors per team.

Each team will be composed of Director/PhotographerModelRigger, Rigger Assistant, Light assistance and Lifter. The attendants can rotate into different roles in each set (so a director in the first set can be a light assistant for the second set and so on).

Each team will be guided and supervised by Zor and Margout, who will give suggestions, practical advice and technical advice to all the participants.

In the West, there is a misconception that kinbaku shoots are not real shoots whereas in Japan they can be very intense, especially for the model. That’s why we will offer a lot of information from the perspective of rope bottoms as well.

We will talk about the communication process between all participants, pre-production, production and post-production, a little bit about the crew, a lot about the direction and all the time about the aesthetics. This workshop is one of our favorites (Zor and Margout) and we consider it a very important topic in relation to kinbaku.
