The main goal of Madrid Shibari is formative. And the first thing we want to tell you is that we take education seriously. At all levels. If you want to learn Shibari/kinbaku, we can help and guide you, but we are also going to ask you to take it seriously and be respectful. If you want to learn shibari to make colorful patterns and suspensions in two days, it is better to go somewhere else, there are many. 🙂

First of all:

First of all, find out what shibari is, read about our vision (which tries to get as close as possible to the one in Japan), keep an open mind, leave prejudices behind and be honest with yourself. Expectations are not good, especially if their foundations are not solid.

Second, choose a training system. Many people start with beginners workshops, in which we approach shibari in a more relaxed way but with a very specific method. We periodically organize this type of workshops throughout Spain and if you can not travel you can organize one in your own city and we will give it. Other people prefer a more direct, private and personalized way of learning, and study exclusively with private lessons, or combining workshops and private lessons.

You will have continuous training

Both the workshops and the private lessons are aimed at enabling the student to continue their practical training process at home. Luckily or unfortunately, we do not dedicate ourselves professionally to this, which gives us the wonderful advantage of not having to sell all the possible workshops to survive, but on the other hand we do not have all the time we would like to teach.

This has led us to build a learning method based on exercises that deal with key pieces, are easily self-evaluated, you can do at home and we are always available for questions by message.

Here is a list of the upcoming workshops we offer.

Re-learning after a negative experience

Many of our students come after having negative experiences learning from self-called masters who are not, or after trying to learn using video tutorials. There is no regulation of any kind on shibari and recently it has become trendy. It can be lucrative, especially if you don't invest in your own education and unfortunately beginners who are excited about learning are the perfect victim.

That has made to appear many masters of nothingness with suspicious CV who want to get profit from the hopes of others. Tutorials are almost worse. It is as absurd to try to learn Shibari using a video as it is to try to do the same in tango, climbing or scuba diving. Not only is it impossible to learn things like tension, emotional management, intimacy or non-verbal language from a video, but they perpetuate the misconception that shibari is based on rope patterns. And they are the perfect recipe for an accident.

Learning becomes more difficult when you have to unlearn bad habits.

Continue your journey on Shibari/Kinbaku

At a certain level, you may want to choose a specific school, or a specific path. You may be more interested in semenawa, or you may be passionate about floorwork play and shuuchinawa, there are hundreds of possibilities. We can train you if we know enough about that path or refer you as our student to other teachers who dominate that area.

We also organize workshops several times a year and bring in international educators so that we and our more advanced students can continue learning.
